Congressman Mark S. Critz (PA-12) released the following statement on tonight's debt ceiling vote:
"Republicans have succeeded once again at holding our country's economy hostage. At the end of the day, we were presented with two options: default on our nation's ability to pay its bills and risk catastrophic economic failure, or, swallow a "deal" that cuts government spending and further weakens our ability to create jobs and economic development.
"While I am opposed to a number of cuts and provisions in this legislation -- default is simply not an option, and failing to raise our nation's debt ceiling would have a disastrous effect on our economy and would hurt American families."
