Issue Position: Education

Issue Position

Educating the next generation is a responsibility of parents, teachers, local schools, and the state.

In order for the U.S. to remain competitive America must ensure that the next generation is ready to participate in the global economy of the 21st Century. Education should remain a local and state issue. Every school district needs flexibility to design its curriculum and instructional methods in a way best suited to its students.

While No Child Left Behind was written with good intentions, it has added significant mandates and red tape to state and local school districts, with little or no regard for the financial, logical, or practical costs. I did not support No Child Left Behind when serving in the Kansas State Senate. As Congress considers reauthorizing this program, I will seek ways to shift power away from Washington, and back to those who know better how to educate our children. I welcome your input regarding changes that should be made to No Child Left Behind.
