Nunnlee Defends Second Amendment Rights

Today, Congressman Alan Nunnelee (R-Miss) announced that he is the co-sponsor of five bills that defend Second Amendment rights.

"As a strong defender of the Second Amendment, I am pleased to co-sponsor these legislative measures that will remove unnecessary restrictions on firearms and eliminate harsh gun control laws. The right to bear arms is a fundamental right that is assured to every law abiding citizen, and as a member of Congress I will continue to fight for this right," Nunnelee said.

Congressman Nunnelee is the co-sponsor of the following bills:

* The BATFE Reform and Firearms Modernization Act(H.R. 1093) would roll back unnecessary restrictions, correct errors and codify longstanding congressional policies in the firearms arena.

* The Firearms Interstate Commerce Reform Act(H.R. 58) would remove several antiquated and unnecessary restrictions imposed on interstate firearms business since 1968.

* The Second Amendment Enforcement Act(H.R. 645) would eliminate harsh gun control laws imposed by the District of Columbia after the Supreme Court's decision in D.C. v Heller (2008).

* The Veterans' Heritage Firearms Act(H.R. 420) would provide a 90-day amnesty period during which veterans and their family members could register firearms acquired overseas between June 26, 1934 and October 31, 1968, without fear of prosecution.

* The Collectable Firearms Protection Act(H.R. 615) would prevent the State Department from interfering with the legal importation of surplus collectable firearms from South Korea that were originally made in the United States.

Congressman Alan Nunnelee represents Mississippi's First Congressional District and serves on the House Appropriations Committee. This is his first term.
