Both the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Illinois protect an individual's right to bear arms.

The Second Amendment of the US Constitution is an amendment that is referenced frequently when it comes to firearm issues, and many people are familiar with the Second Amendment.

Many people, however, are not aware of Article I (Bill of Rights) Section 22 of the Illinois Constitution. That Section states that subject only to the police power the right of the individual citizen to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

There are many issues surrounding the ownership of firearms. Those issues, however, do not diminish the basic constitutional rights specified in our Constitutions.

I support the right of law-abiding citizens to own firearms.
