Issue Position: Welfare

I believe that any person would rather work than be on welfare and that those who can work and pay into society should in order to contribute as taxpayers. Yes, we should have a safety net for our citizens, but we must also have a debate about what that safety net should be so that it doesn't become permanent.

The Welfare Reform Act was great because it limited time on welfare which helped 40 to 50 percent of recipients get a job and get off welfare. It needs to be that way going forward. The key to any government program is that those who benefit from the taxpayer dollars used to pay for the program should be required to give something in return.
