Issue Position: Restraining the Growth of Government

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

Corey stopped the biggest waste of taxpayer money in Montana history, when he demanded the reorganization of personnel and replacement of a flawed computer system inside the Department of Revenue in 2003. His legislation (SB271) was opposed by nearly everyone in the beginning, and supported by nearly everyone in the end. Corey's courageous leadership transcended party lines and branches of government, saving taxpayers millions of dollars, but not until the POINTS debacle had cost Montana $60 million.

A fiscal hawk on the Finance and Claims committee, Corey was a vocal and natural leader on matters relating to state government operations. He consistently challenged new spending requests, and found solutions of sustainability by reducing or eliminating underperforming programs. His influence and leadership on information technology issues spanned all branches of government. If you think it's expensive to pay for good computer systems and management, just wait to see what you'll pay for something less than that. Corey can tell you.

As the next Governor of Montana, Corey will bring an unprecedented combination of leadership, vision, experience, and fiscal restraint at a time we need it most!
