Legal Briefs Supporting Catholic Church to be Filed

Press Release

Date: May 23, 2012
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Judicial Branch

Fighting for religious freedom, Congressman Jeff Landry (R, LA-03) has started an effort to assist the Catholic Church in their lawsuits against the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Landry is calling on his fellow Members of Congress to join the amicus briefs he petitioned the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) to draft.

The briefs will support the 43 Catholic institutions which recently filed 12 separate lawsuits challenging the infamous HHS mandate requiring institutions facilitate certain drugs and procedures that they hold as morally objectionable.

"The President's direct assault on our religious liberty and Constitutional rights is one that Congress should work together to rescind," said Congressman Landry. "I hope my colleagues will join me on these briefs and the American people will join me in prayer to ensure no one has to violate their faith in order to comply with an ideological and unconstitutional government mandate."
