Issue Position: Jobs and Economy

Issue Position

While our economy is struggling and far too many Americans are out of work, Congress isn't doing enough to get our economy moving again. We must support our businesses by giving them incentives to create and keep jobs here in the district and in America. We must cut the unnecessary and frustrating red tape that holds small businesses back and stifles innovation. We should never forget that American research and development has yielded some of the most important advances in history, and we must continue to look toward the future and support high-tech research. We must also look to make government a model, and take all efforts to make government more efficient, and cut waste, fraud, and abuse, to reduce our deficit and make us more efficient. Having owned and managed a small business for 11 years, I have experienced firsthand the challenges that small business owners face, and I will work hard to ensure businesses have the support they need to succeed.

We must also support our workers and future business owners, with fair wages and safe workplaces. Americans have built this country, and we need to encourage businesses to give as much support and security to their workers as we can. Additionally, we should encourage apprenticeships and job training programs for all manner of careers, from skills and trades to research and development, which will help us develop the skilled workforce that the jobs of
today and tomorrow demand. And for those who have a vision and want to work hard to build a business or create a new industry, we should support their ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit. America was built by small business owners with a vision and a dedicated workforce, and our economy will be rebuilt the same way.
