We must prepare our future workforce to compete on a global scale. This means offering students world-class options for higher education, including college and technical skills programs, which prepare them to not just achieve, but lead.

Making education affordable through student loan and other programs is a critical component of preparing this workforce. A student who wants to learn should have the opportunity, and if that student wants to use his or her education to serve our country, we should offer loan forgiveness in exchange for their faithful service.

If we want our future generations to be successful, and be able to compete globally, we need to start with early childhood education, which can play a tremendous role in setting children on a strong path from the outset. To guide and instruct them most effectively on this path, we also need to allocate sufficient and equitable funding to public schools, and encourage creativity about ways to improve schools and districts that are troubled, and ensure participation of educators and stakeholders in that process.

Providing adequate funding for public education at all levels is critical to give our kids and young adults the chance to succeed, particularly in this global economy. We need to make sure we are providing the best opportunities to educate and prepare young adults to be competitive and succeed, from pre-school through higher education.
