Dr. Benishek Comments on House Vote to Hold Attorney General in Contempt of Congress

Statement

Date: June 28, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Dr. Dan Benishek (MI-01) today released the following statement in support of the House of Representatives' vote to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for failing to supply adequate information on the "Fast and Furious" investigation:

"Today's vote to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress is the result of the Justice Department stonewalling the House's efforts to learn the truth about the botched gun walker program known as "Fast and Furious.' This reckless operation led to the death of Michigan native Brian Terry. I believe both the family of Brian Terry and the American people deserve to know the truth about what happened. We have given the Justice Department 18 months to comply, but instead the Attorney General has chosen to block Congress' investigation. I am hopeful that following today's vote, the Administration will resolve this issue by finally cooperating with Congress, shed light on what really happened in this program and ensure nothing like this ever happens again."
