Matt Lesser believes that maintaining a top tier public education system is key to our state's long term competitiveness.

He will sit down with educators, school boards, and parents to make sure that District 13 and the Middletown Schools have the resources they need to provide quality education for our kids. We need to tailor education to the needs of each child, and fight back against the teach-to-the-test culture of No Child Left Behind.

At the same time, Matt Lesser believes we need to do something about the increasing impact of education costs on taxpayers. We need to shift some of the burden for education away from local taxpayers to the state, and take steps to lower costs where we can.

To that end, he will support lowering insurance costs by making it easier for school workers to join larger insurance pools. With utility rates already at record highs and rising, Matt Lesser believes that switching to alternative sources of energy is one of the keys to controlling the costs of schools and local government. The state can and should work with school boards to help fund a transition to clean, cheap and renewable sources of energy.
