Congressman Rothman's Statement on the One Year Anniversary of the Repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"

Statement

Date: Sept. 20, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Steve Rothman (NJ-9), a member of the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee, released the following statement on the one year anniversary of the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell:"

Today, we celebrate America's continued progress toward equality and inclusion for all in our society. With the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," countless Americans were granted the opportunity to serve their country openly and proudly. Our Armed Forces are stronger and our country is safer because of those gay and lesbian Americans who have, and those who will, choose to defend our nation. I join with millions to celebrate the one year anniversary of the end to this discriminatory policy and I stand committed to the continued fight for equality for all Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Americans and their families under the law.
