Congressman Rothman's Statement on the September Jobs Report

Statement

Date: Oct. 5, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, released the following statement on the September 2012 Employment Situation report, which was released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

Nearly four years ago, we were losing 800,000 jobs a month. Today we have seen 31 straight months of private sector job growth and the lowest unemployment rate since January 2009. The drop to 7.8% unemployment is encouraging news but we still have much more work to do. Too many of my constituents remain out of work and are struggling to provide for their families.
Congress must work to continue the economic recovery and ensure that everyone who is able can find gainful employment. I call on Congress to come back to work and pass President Obama's American Jobs Act so that we can add to the 114,000 workers that found employment in September.
