Growing up on the Navajo reservation in New Mexico, and in early years on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation in South Dakota, Elizabeth experienced what it was like to be a minority. Being a woman, she has also experienced the inequalities based on gender. Her son Eric has autism, and she has witnessed discrimination based on disability.
