Rep. McKinley Responds to October Jobs Report

Statement

Date: Nov. 2, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Rep. David B. McKinley, P.E. (R-W.Va.) released the following statement on today's announcement by the Bureau of Labor Statistics the unemployment rate rose from 7.8 percent to 7.9 percent:

"Today's news is another reminder this country is headed in the wrong direction under President Obama's failed economic policies," said Rep. McKinley. "The rate of recovery is much slower than where it should be. The unemployment rate is now higher than when it was when President Obama took office."

"Unfortunately, the President's solution is more government bureaucracy by creating a new Secretary of Business," noted McKinley. "That's not how you create and maintain jobs."

"Before taking office, Barack Obama said the unemployment rate would not rise above eight percent," noted McKinley. "But for 43 months, it remained above eight percent and millions of Americans started losing hope. This is the highest period of sustained unemployment since the Great Depression."

"With 23 million unemployed or underemployed Americans, we must change course and give hope to millions hurt by Obama's economy," added Rep. McKinley.
