Dr. Benishek Sworn Into Second Term As First District Congressman

Dr. Dan Benishek (MI-01) today was sworn into the 113th Congress by Speaker of the House of Representatives John Boehner in the United States Capitol in Washington, DC.

"It is truly an honor to continue serving the people of Michigan's First District and I am humbled by the trust my fellow citizens have placed in me. My top priority is to keep fighting for good paying jobs in our area so that our children and grandchildren can continue working and living in Northern Michigan," said Dr. Benishek, who worked as a general surgeon in Iron Mountain before being elected to Congress in 2010.

"As a physician and lifelong resident of Northern Michigan, Dan Benishek has been working hard over the past two years to bring some common sense to Washington. I look forward to continuing to work with Dr. Benishek as he represents Michigan's First Congressional District in the 113th Congress," said House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH).

As mandated by 20th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, the 113th Congress was sworn into office at 12:00 PM on January 3, 2013. In his second term, Dr. Benishek will serve on three House committees: the House Committee on Agriculture, the House Committee on Natural Resources, and the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs. Additionally, Dr. Benishek was recently named the Chairman for the Subcommittee on Health on the Veterans' Affairs Committee.

A lifelong resident of Upper Michigan, Dr. Benishek and his wife Judy live near Crystal Falls. Prior to being sworn into Congress on January 5, 2011, Dr. Benishek had never sought nor held any previous public office.
