Date: July 9, 2013
Issues: Religion

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement today in recognition of the holy month of Ramadan:

"I extend my warmest wishes to Muslim Michiganders and Americans marking the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, a time of prayer, reflection and fasting. Millions of Muslim families and communities gather during this joyous time to cherish family, friends, neighbors and help those in need. A time of happiness and celebration for millions of Muslim Americans, Ramadan is also a time for all Americans to recognize the countless contributions they continue to make to our great nation.

"May Ramadan this year bring joy, wisdom and peace to all who observe it. Ramadan Kareem."

This year, Congressman Dan Kildee cosponsored a resolution in Congress recognizing Ramadan, which said, in part, that "we are blessed to live in a Nation that protects the right to religious freedom, and embraces religious diversity and interfaith understanding."
