Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement in support of the Filipino people in the aftermath of Super Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda:

"My thoughts and prayers are with the people of the Philippines as they recover from this storm's devastation. This tragedy hits close to home for the Filipino-American community in my Congressional District. But in the wake of such damage and loss of life, I know that those affected by the storm will persevere. I encourage all those who wish to help to visit the State Department's website (www.state.gov) or the Los Angeles office of the Philippine Consulate General's website (www.philippineconsulatela.org).

"Our federal government is providing immediate humanitarian assistance and doing everything it can to aid in the response. I wholeheartedly support these efforts and my office is ready to assist communities here at home as they deal with the storm's aftermath in the coming days. We are working with community groups and impacted families in Los Angeles to make sure they amass the resources to help the relief effort and find loved ones in the Philippines. In addition, families in the district who need information on their missing American citizen relatives in the Philippines can call my office. Together with our good friends and partners in the Philippines we will overcome the latest challenge testing the courageous Filipino people."
