Issue Position

I'm honored to have been named a "Pro-Life All Star" by Texas Right to Life and to be endorsed by Texas Right to Life PAC. Protecting the lives of unborn children has been one of my major priorities throughout my public service:

I co-authored and passed House Bill 15 in 78th Legislature (2003) which prohibits an abortion except by the voluntary and informed consent of the mother.

I co-authored and passed House Bill 15 in 82nd Legislature (2011) which requires an expectant mother to view a sonogram and hear her unborn child's heartbeat prior to consenting to an abortion.

I co-sponsored and passed House Bill 2 in the Second Called Session of the 83rd Legislature (2013). HB 2 is the landmark legislation to protect the lives of unborn children that prohibits abortions after 20 weeks of gestation, requires abortion clinics to have the same standard of care as an ambulatory surgical clinic, and requires doctors to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the abortion clinic for emergency care for a patient if necessary.

As Attorney General, I will promote a culture of life in Texas, and ensure that laws passed by the legislature to protect the lives of unborn children are fully implemented and legally protected.
