Barton Votes "No" on Budget Proposal

Press Release

Date: Dec. 12, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Joe Barton released the following statement after voting against the so-called budget deal, which increases spending over the next two years:

"I voted no for a number of reasons. Most importantly this proposal doesn't save any money in the first two years. In fact, it increases spending by an estimated $60 billion. The entitlement reforms and savings that have been discussed wouldn't come until 2022 and 2023 -- if they ever materialize at all.

"We can't keep cutting deals that ultimately spend more today, while promising to save money in 10 years. It is time to get serious about the nation's spending problem. I will continue to push for fiscal sanity and make sure Washington is responsible with your money."
