Issue Position: Shrinking the Size of Government

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2014

I am a firm believer that less government is best. When you boil it all down, the government is a major part of the reason why we have an energy crisis, a national and state crisis in education, and so many regulations in health care that competition and transparency are significantly impeded, resulting in costs that continue to spiral out of control and insurance that is unaffordable for many. It is also why we have a national debt that will soon eclipse our national Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

In order to bring about the changes we need in our federal government so that we can remain competitive as a state and nation, we need a different mindset in Washington. We need less government, not more of it, in order to tap our fullest potential -- both individually and collectively -- and keep America and her allies free.

For those reasons and more, I will fight to cut federal spending, reform our entitlement programs, reform our regulatory agencies, and reform our tax code so that we can grow our economy and reduce our national debt, which threatens to render us a third-rate nation subject to the whims of our enemies across the world.
