Rep. Ellison Statement on Supreme Court Decision in McCutcheon v. FEC

Statement

Date: April 2, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) released the following statement today after the Supreme Court struck down overall limits on campaign contributions in a decision in McCutcheon v. FEC.

"The Supreme Court is continuing its push to transform the United States into a place where billionaires decide who represents the people, not We the People. Today's decision in McCutcheon v. FEC only benefits Americans who can donate over the current aggregate limit of $123,200 to campaigns. Is it really a mystery why we haven't renewed unemployment insurance, raised the minimum wage, or passed comprehensive immigration reform? Until we get money out of politics, the priorities of working Americans will continue to be drowned out by Super PACs and wealthy donors.

"The decision today is a call to action for Americans to reclaim their democracy."
