The U.S. House of Representatives voted on several budget proposals over the past two days and passed the Ryan budget proposal 219 to 205 today. Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. made the following comment:

"I've always said we need to put people ahead of politics and work together to negotiate a responsible budget that both addresses our country's fiscal challenges, and makes important investments in our economy. But all the budget options presented this week were one-sided, political exercises that do nothing to move our country forward and I could not support them. In December, I voted for a reasonable, bipartisan, budget agreement for the next two years. I will continue to fight for pragmatic, responsible solutions that strengthen Medicare, make investments to grow our economy, and address our debt. That's what Sacramento County families want and deserve."

Bera is leading the fight for a permanent version of the No Budget No Pay Act, which says if Congress doesn't do its job and pass a responsible budget, they don't get paid.
