Pompeo Votes to Grant Veterans Immediate Access to Care

Press Release

Date: June 10, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Mike Pompeo, R-Kansas, released the following statement after House passage of H.R. 4810, the Veterans Access to Care Act:

"Today, the House passed a reform that grants veterans access to the care they need and deserve. Forcing 57,000 veterans across the nation to wait several months for their first healthcare appointment, failing to add an additional 64,000 to a waiting list, despite their requests for care--this is not how we serve those who have served our nation.

"The House has also passed other measures, including a bill to allow VA leaders to fire managers who are not fulfilling their responsibilities, and legislation to ensure critical reforms recommended by the VA Inspector General are swiftly implemented to fix these problems. We need to be clear with this out-of-control bureaucracy: No bonuses for bad employees. The VA needs to work for our veterans and their families."

Congressman Pompeo is a West Point graduate and former Army cavalry captain who sits on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He wrote to Wichita's VA in early June about reports that they too had been using a "secret unauthorized list."
