Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (D-East Moline) has only supported one budget during her time in the U.S. House of Representatives--a flawed version of the Ryan budget that cut military benefits by $6 billion. She has voted no or present on every other proposal, including multiple proposals put forward by Democrats.
Bobby Schilling (R-Colona), candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in the Illinois 17th District, said that Congresswoman Bustos isn't doing her job.
"One of the most important jobs of Congress is to run the government in a reasonable, responsible manner--and that means passing a budget," Schilling said. "Cheri Bustos has shown no leadership and no backbone by refusing to address our nation's fiscal challenges. We need someone in Congress who will take their job seriously, fight for the middle class, and put this country back on the right track."
Jon Schweppe, communications director for the Bobby Schilling for Congress campaign, said that Bustos has shown no leadership whatsoever in Congress.
"Congresswoman Bustos has displayed a stunning lack of conviction during her time in Congress--she's not interested in standing for anything except protecting late-term abortion up to the moment of birth," Schweppe said. "Illinois families understand that to make ends meet you have to make a budget and stick to it. By refusing to vote for a budget, Cheri Bustos is proving that she is nothing more than a typical tax and spend Washington politician."
