Will Congresswoman Bustos Tell Veterans She Cut Their Benefits?

Press Release

Date: May 23, 2014
Location: East Moline, IL
Issues: Veterans

Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (D-East Moline) is holding a private veterans workshop today from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the Plumbers and Pipefitters Hall in Rock Island. Bustos has come under fire recently from local veterans for her vote to cut $6 billion from veterans benefits--something Bustos said was "right for America"--and also for her lack of action during the VA scandal.

Jon Schweppe, communications director at Bobby Schilling for Congress, released the following statement:

"What is Congresswoman Bustos going to tell veterans today? Will she tell them they need to cut back on their personal budgets after she voted to reduce their benefits? Will she ask them to choose between quality health care or putting food on the table?

"Congresswoman Bustos showed no compassion to veterans last year when she voted to cut their benefits by $6 billion. Are we supposed to believe Bustos has had a sudden change of heart a few months before the election? Veterans can see through the smoke and mirrors, and they know Congresswoman Bustos does not have their back."
