Issue Position: Women & Families

Issue Position

Gary is the proud father of two daughters and a son. With his wife, Colleen, they raised their children in the place they grew up -- Oakland County. Like every parent, they want the best for their children, and that means making sure they have the tools necessary to pursue their dreams.

Gary is concerned that his daughters' futures are being threatened by some politicians in Washington who are trying to turn back the clock on advancements and deny women basic rights -- from restricting access to life-saving medical care to refusing to require equal pay for equal work.

Gary has consistently stood up for Michigan women and their families. From attacks to defund family planning clinics like Planned Parenthood to limiting access to birth control, Gary has consistently fought to defend women's access to the health care they need.

Gary is proud to have helped pass the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, and he will continue to work toward equal pay until the gender wage gap is closed once and for all.

When Washington politicians even tried to block the Violence Against Women Act, Gary demanded a vote to pass a fully inclusive version of the law and worked to get the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act passed in 2013.

Gary will always fight for policies that empower women to make their own choices. As long as extreme members of the far right continue their attempts to drag women's rights in America back to the 1950s, Gary will continue to fight back.
