Rep. Ellison Condemns ISIS Order on Female Genital Mutilation in Mosul

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) released the following statement today after reports that the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) announced it would impose a female genital mutilation on women and girls aged 11 to 46 in and around the city of Mosul.

"Female genital mutilation has no place in the civilized world. The ISIS order is not an acceptable cultural practice and the United Nations has condemned it as a human rights violation. The United States and the international community must do everything it can to stop this unprecedented female genital mutilation order. The women and girls of Mosul must be protected from a practice that causes pain, health problems, infertility and can lead to death."
