Honoring Our Veterans

The federal government has a sacred responsibility to provide for those who defend the nation, government, way of life, and Constitution each and every day. Dan feels strongly about this issue because he is a veteran himself -- a 20-year infantry and reconnaissance Marine currently serving as the commanding officer of a U.S. Marine Corps Reserve ANGLICO unit.

Alaska has one the highest numbers of veterans per capita in the nation -- over 77,000 strong. Many come to Alaska to serve at bases like Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Fort Greely, Eielson Air Force Base and Fort Wainwright, and after they complete their service or retire, they stay in Alaska. The state's large veteran population is something communities across Alaska take great pride in.

America's veterans and their families have earned their benefits through hard work, dedication, and sometimes the ultimate sacrifice. In an era where trust in government has plummeted, there is no more important issue than keeping faith with our veterans.

Dan is focused on this critical issue, and will work to safeguard and respect veterans in a special manner. His campaign's first policy paper, launched on Veteran's Day, is titled the "Promises Delivered Project" and lays out his vision for how we can better serve our nation's veterans.

Promoting a Strong, Smart National Defense

On September 11, 2001, Americans witnessed the most horrific terrorist attacks on our nation's soil. It was a reminder of the terrorist threats we face as a country. These threats have not ceased and we must ensure that we remain vigilant in the War on Terrorism.

Dan has senior-level military, national security, foreign policy, and energy security experience through service to our country as a 20-year Marine Corps infantry officer and as a U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Energy, Economics and Business.

He is committed to protecting our national security and providing our nation's military men and women with the resources they need to do this.
