Mitt Romney Endorses Capito, Jenkins and Mooney Rallies for West Virginia Jobs

Press Release

Governor Mitt Romney -- the 2012 Republican presidential nominee who won all 55 counties in West Virginia -- today endorsed Republican candidates Shelley Moore Capito, Evan Jenkins and Alex Mooney during a Working for West Virginia Jobs Rally in Beckley.

"West Virginians deserve leaders like Shelley, Evan and Alex who will stand up against Obama's anti-coal agenda. These three fighters will put West Virginia on a path toward a stronger future where jobs, families and West Virginia values can thrive," said Governor Mitt Romney.

At the jobs rally, Capito, Jenkins and Mooney each discussed their plans for growing West Virginia jobs and bringing much-needed relief to West Virginia's hard-working families.

"It is an honor to receive Governor Romney's endorsement. I am pro-coal, pro-jobs, pro-West Virginia and I am ready to take our fight directly to President Obama, Harry Reid and anyone else who wants to cast our state aside," said Republican U.S. Senate candidate Shelley Moore Capito. "It is my mission to fight until Obama's War on Coal is defeated, ObamaCare is replaced with healthcare reform that works, and we put our nation on a pathway toward prosperity for future generations."

Capito was the House sponsor of the MINER Act of 2006, which contained the most significant update of mine safety laws since the 1970s as a result of the Sago Mine accident. She also co-sponsored the Coal Healthcare and Pensions Protection Act, with the support of the United Mine Workers of America, which would provide the resources needed to protect the healthcare benefits and pensions of coal miners.

"I'm honored that Gov. Romney came to the Third District of West Virginia to endorse my campaign for Congress. We share a commitment to job creation in West Virginia. The people of West Virginia supported Governor Romney overwhelmingly because we have seen that the policies of Barack Obama and Nick Rahall do not work," said Evan Jenkins, Republican candidate for West Virginia's 3rd Congressional District.

"It is an honor to have Governor Romney campaigning in West Virginia again. Together, we are rallying voters to stand up for West Virginia jobs and values. Unlike President Obama and his liberal ally Nick Casey, Gov. Romney and I are committed to fighting for our coal jobs in West Virginia, repealing Obamacare and returning fiscal responsibility to Washington," said Alex Mooney, Republican candidate for West Virginia's 2nd Congressional District.

In 2012, Governor Romney won 92 percent of coal producing counties in America, including all 55 West Virginia counties. As the 2012 Republican presidential nominee he pledged to restrain Obama's activist EPA and repeal costly regulations that kill jobs and cost our economy billions of dollars. Governor Romney supports an all-of-the-above energy policy that harnesses America's coal and other energy resources to help create jobs in West Virginia and across the nation.
