Keith helped pass legislation in the House of Representatives that puts America on the path to energy independence while protecting our environment from harmful carbon emissions. This legislation requires all electric utilities to meet 20 percent of their demand through renewable energy sources by 2020, invests $190 billion in new clean energy technologies, and reduces carbon emissions 80 percent by 2050. Although the bill did not become law, Keith continues to advocate for policies such as cap and trade that reduce our carbon footprint and transition away from fossil fuel use.
Everyone has the right to drink clean water, breathe clean air, and eat food free of harmful toxins. For years, Keith has been actively involved in the environmental justice movement, which brings communities of color and low-income communities into the larger efforts of creating a cleaner world for our children and future generations.
