This afternoon, the State of the Port address will be delivered in Charleston, confirming the importance of the Port for South Carolina's economy. Governor Nikki Haley sided against the Port in exchange for campaign contributions in 2011, while leaders from both sides of the aisle fought her and moved forward to stand behind the Port of Charleston as a vital economic driver. Sen. Vincent Sheheen released this statement on today's address:
"The state of our Port is strong and getting stronger because of the hardworking people in Charleston and the dedication of a bipartisan group of leaders who fought for this vital piece of our infrastructure. When faced with the choice to support the Port of Charleston or fill her own campaign coffers, Nikki Haley sold out our state and tried to put us at a disadvantage. Once again, Nikki Haley proved can't be trusted to put the best interests of our state above the politics of her self-interest. It's time for honest leadership."
