U.S. Congressman Dave Reichert (WA-8) issued the following statement in response to the President's speech last night:

"Last night we heard President Obama's strategy to "degrade and ultimately defeat' the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). His strategy incorporates a broad, multi-national coalition, which I applaud. Every citizen of the world should be concerned about the threat posed by ISIL. We have seen cases of men and women from all over the globe leave home to join their ranks. This radicalism cannot be tolerated; the president is right: we cannot allow terrorists safe havens. The objectives laid out by President Obama are a start, but we must also be prepared to continually assess and evaluate a clear strategy to eliminate the extremism taught and acted out by ISIL. I will work diligently with my colleagues to ensure that the President's words lead to action and that an open dialogue continues on how best to defeat this enemy. It is time for America and this Administration to lead and to take decisive, powerful action to eliminate the threat of ISIL."
