Ron Kind Votes Stands with the EPA, Not Farmers

Press Release

Date: Sept. 16, 2014
Location: La Crosse, WI

The last thing farmers in West-Central Wisconsin want is more government red tape interfering with their lives and farms. Some Congressmen, like Reid Ribble (R-WI) and Tim Walz (D-MN) understand this. That's why they supported H.R. 5078, which passed the House last week with bi-partisan support.

H.R. 5078, which is known as the Waters of the United States Regulatory Overreach Protection Act, prevents the EPA from expanding their mandate through a bureaucratic reinterpretation of the Clean Water Act. Unfortunately for West-Central Wisconsin farmers, Ron Kind voted against the bill.

That's right. Unlike the farm bureau and thirty-five of his Democratic colleagues, Kind voted no on the bill, apparently preferring to allow the EPA to continue to overregulate our area farms out of business.

"As a farmer, I am shocked at Congressman Kind's vote," said Tony Kurtz, candidate for Congress in Wisconsin's 3rd Congressional District. "Farmers are overregulated, Ron Kind has the chance to do something about it, and instead he votes for the status quo. That's the move of a career politician, not a representative of the people."

In this week's radio address, Tony Kurtz explains his support for H.R. 5078 and the importance of restoring the balance between ensuring economic opportunity and conserving our environment.
