Rep. Tammy Duckworth: Bruce Braley Is A "Fierce Advocate" For Veterans

Iraq War Veteran Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) joined Bruce Braley today to speak to local Iowa veterans about Bruce Braley's long record of delivering results for Veterans. At a Veterans' roundtable in Davenport, Duckworth highlighted Braley's fierce advocacy for Iowa's Veterans and why she trusts Bruce to continue that advocacy in the United States Senate.

"As a veteran, I appreciate Bruce Braley's hard work on behalf of Veterans. Bruce has a proven record of standing up for Iowans, reaching across the party divide, and delivering results," said Duckworth. "Nowhere is this more evident than in the passionate work he has done for Iowa Veterans. His passion isn't surprising, since his father was a Marine who fought on Iwo Jima. This is important to Bruce, and it's personal to Bruce. He's shown that our Veterans are a priority to him, and I know he'll continue to be a fierce advocate for Veterans in the United States Senate."

Braley's record for Iowa's Veterans and military families is one of results. In addition to securing back-pay and GI Bill benefits for Iowa National Guard members, he introduced and helped pass tax cuts for businesses who hire Veterans and worked across the aisle to pass the Andrew Connolly Veterans Housing Act, helping injured and disabled Veterans retrofit their homes. Braley has also introduced legislation to incentivize more doctors and nurses to work at the VA to help provide the quality care Veterans deserve.

Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth is an Iraq War Veteran and former Assistant Secretary of Veterans Affairs. In 2004, Duckworth was deployed to Iraq as a Blackhawk helicopter pilot for the Illinois Army National Guard. She was one of the first Army women to fly combat missions during Operation Iraqi Freedom and was awarded a Purple Heart for her combat injuries. Duckworth ran for Congress in 2012 to advocate for the practical solutions and cooperation needed to rebuild our economy and ensure that every American has a chance to achieve the American Dream.
