Kuster Endorsed by NARAL Pro-Choice America

Issues: Abortion

U.S. Rep. Ann McLane Kuster, D-NH, re-accepted the NARAL Pro-Choice America endorsement on Oct. 22, at a Halloween-themed event at The Barley House in Concord.

In front of spider webs, a skeleton, and illuminated balloons and decorations, Kuster accepted the endorsement of the group, noting that her parents, who were Republicans, also supported the organization, too. As an adoption attorney, she stated that she had seen many facets of women's healthcare decisions, as well as when to have children. Kuster added that all of the options should be available to women.

"The government should not be the one to make this most personal, most private, most profound decision, in a woman's life," she added, "and that's when and whether to have children."

Kuster and others, including Laura Thibault, the executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice New Hampshire, also attacked her opponent, state Rep. Marilinda Garcia, R-Salem, for being "extreme" on women's issues, including paycheck fairness, supporting a Constitutional amendment to determine that a fetus is a person, as well as banning all abortions including in cases of rape or incest.

Kenny Cunningham, a spokesperson for the Garcia campaign, offered a statement saying Kuster "and her special interest allies continue spending millions on a single-issue campaign focused solely on negative attack ads" against Garcia.

"What's really scary is that Ann Kuster supports a $716 billion cut in Medicare, which will cut over $2,000 from benefits owed to New Hampshire seniors," he added.
