Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty Opposes Dangerous Homeland Security Bill That Rolls Back Immigration Reforms

Today, Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty (CT-5) voted against the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act of 2015, H.R. 240. House Republicans included "poison pill" amendments to the bill to fund homeland security that would roll back important immigration reforms and prevent the Department from targeting enforcement resources on deporting felons and violent criminals.

"Recent terrorist attacks in Paris give us a stark reminder of how important it is to vigilantly protect our national security. Yet House Republicans are threatening to shut down Department of Homeland Security operations unless Congress rolls back sensible, humane immigration reforms. We should not play political games with our national security. Instead, we should responsibly fund the Department of Homeland Security and focus our limited national security resources on deporting violent criminals rather than breaking up families and deporting students who are just trying to achieve the American dream," said Esty.
