Today, Congresswoman Alma Adams [NC-12] become an original co-sponsor on a bipartisan resolution to award the Freedom Riders with the Congressional Gold Medal. Adams released the following statement shortly after the bill was introduced:

"I am very pleased to see my colleagues from both sides of the aisle come together to co-sponsor this very important resolution," said Congresswoman Adams. "Less than 60 years ago, our country was deeply divided by segregation laws. The Freedom Riders' courage changed our country's history through peaceful protest, "continued Adams. "Protestors were often attacked and endured horrific treatment. The sacrifices that the Freedom Riders made gave our nation the resolve to fight for justice and see a world free from racial inequality, an honorable cause that most certainly ought to be commemorated, " concluded Adams.
