Congressman Becerra: On Health Care, Let's Put People Over Politics

Statement

Date: Feb. 3, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement after voting against legislation (H.R. 596) that marks the 56th vote House Republicans have taken to repeal or undermine the Affordable Care Act:

"Robbing hard-working Americans of their affordable health security is just plain cruel. Today, House Republicans voted to strip away affordable health insurance from over 12 million Americans who didn't have coverage just a year ago and from millions more who are now signing up during this open enrollment period.

"Despite all of the scare tactics and misinformation, the truth is the Affordable Care Act is working. The uninsured rate has dropped to its lowest level in recent memory and health care inflation continues dropping. House Republicans need to abandon these irresponsible, partisan attempts to take us back to the days of sky-high premiums and denial of care based on pre-existing conditions. Instead, let's put people over politics and build on the successes of the Affordable Care Act, so we can offer affordable health security to even more hard-working families."
