U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) voted yes today on bipartisan legislation that encourages Americans to support charities by making permanent tax deductions for charitable giving. H.R. 644, the America Gives More Act, passed the U.S. House of Representatives today 279-137.

"West Virginians are known for helping one another, and the spirit of charity is an important part of our state's culture. The America Gives More Act makes it easier for businesses and individuals to support charities of their choosing while lowering their tax burdens. Charities and nonprofits play a critical role in making our communities better places to live, and I am proud to support them in their work," Rep. Jenkins said.

The America Gives More Act combines four pieces of legislation that address tax policy:

* The Fighting Hunger Incentive Act, which would permanently extend the deduction for businesses to donate food inventory
* The Permanent IRA Charitable Contribution Act, which would permanently extend a provision allowing taxpayers to exclude as much as $100,000 in distributions from an IRA from income if the amount is donated to certain public charities.
* The Conservation Easement Incentive Act, which would permanently extend an enhanced charitable deduction for conservation easements.
* The Private Foundation Excise Tax Simplification Act, which would permanently modify the excise tax rate on investment income of private foundations.
