House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on the Obama Administration's Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) decision to rescind its proposal to ban the popular M855 sporting ammunition:
"The ATF's decision today is a victory for our Second Amendment rights. The Obama Administration's latest attempt to constrain the Second Amendment has succumbed to concerns and opposition from the American people and their elected Representatives in Congress. The surprise release of this proposal on a Friday afternoon last month, in typical Obama Administration fashion, was a move to usurp the democratic process, and today's decision is a clear reminder that despite the President's intent, attempts to impose his agenda by executive fiat will not stand with the American people. The House is in firm opposition to this Administration's seemingly common unlawful executive overreach, and we will continue to fight against any further proposals that infringe on our constitutional rights."
