Johnson Votes to Counter President Obama's Executive Actions on Immigration

Statement

Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) issued the following statement after voting to fully defund President Obama's unlawful executive order while providing funding for the Department of Homeland Security to protect the safety of the American people:

"In November, the American people spoke and I, along with many of my colleagues in the House, listened. President Obama decided to protect the rights of citizens of other countries whose first act in our country was to willfully break our laws instead of protecting the interests of the American people. I took an oath to serve you, and to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. We're a nation founded on the principle of checks and balances, and voting to pass this legislation serves as an important check on President Obama's unilateral actions," Bill Johnson said.

"The amendments included in this funding bill would stop President Obama's executive overreach as it relates to immigration. This legislation would also bolster border security, end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA), and completely defund President Obama's executive order and thwart efforts to provide federal benefits to illegal immigrants. Additionally, this legislation would ensure that the Department of Homeland Security remains adequately funded to protect the American people. I'm hopeful the Senate will follow suit and pass this important legislation."
