Culberson Stands With Texas in Fight Against Amnesty

Statement

Date: Dec. 27, 2014
Location: Houston, TX

Congressman John Culberson (TX-07) joined an amicus brief supporting the State of Texas's lawsuit against President Obama's illegal executive actions on amnesty. Twenty-three other states have already joined the lawsuit, and more than sixty Members of Congress have signed onto the amicus brief filed by the American Center for Law and Justice.

"President Obama's overreach is unprecedented. From Obamacare to the IRS scandals to his executive amnesty, no president has shown less regard for the rule of law. This week, I signed onto an amicus brief led by the State of Texas challenging President Obama's unconstitutional amnesty. I'm proud to stand with Texas as we work to restore our Constitution and the rule of law.

"The structure and stability of our constitutional system depends on the President enforcing the laws Congress enacts--not ignoring or rewriting them. I applaud Governor-elect Abbott and the twenty-three other states for their efforts in holding the Obama administration accountable. Elected officials have a duty to defend the Constitution and represent their constituents, and this legal challenge does both. I'm proud that Texas is taking the lead, and I will support Governor-elect Abbott's efforts in every way possible."
