Congressman Becerra: Cesar Chavez Taught Us Justice Requires Hard Work

Date: March 31, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra, Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement commemorating the birthday of labor and civil rights leader Cesar E. Chavez:

"Cesar Chavez knew that the fight for equal justice required not only a strong moral argument but hard work and resilience. Chavez transformed his experiences as a farmworker and a community organizer into a movement that fought for the dignity and well-being of all workers in this country.

"On his birthday, let us not forget the sacrifices he and the rest of the farmworker movement made to bring about real change for some of our nation's most vulnerable workers. Whether it is in guaranteeing the full enforcement of worker protection laws or in finally passing commonsense immigration reform, it is up to all of us to help carry out the remaining work of his legacy."
