Rep. Ellison Statement on Fifth Anniversary of the Affordable Care Act

Statement

Date: March 23, 2015
Location: Minneapolis, MN

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) released the following statement today on the fifth anniversary of the signing of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

"Five years ago today, President Obama signed the life-saving Affordable Care Act into law. Since that day, thousands of Minnesotans are living better lives because they can afford health care.

"If you doubt the impact of the Affordable Care Act, talk to a Minnesotan with a preexisting condition who can now get the care she needs; ask a Minnesotan who's never been able to afford routine care what it's like to visit the doctor's office and not worry about breaking the bank; talk to a woman in Minnesota who isn't being charged more for insurance just because she's a woman.

"In 2009, 12 percent of residents in the 5th District lacked health insurance coverage. 95 percent of Minnesotans are covered today--the highest insured rate in our state's history. The Affordable Care Act is working for Minnesota."
