As a member of the Homeland Security Committee, I am working hard to bring positive reform to our border security and immigration systems and develop a responsible immigration policy. Before any other changes are made to our immigration system, we must do everything in our power to strengthen border security. Simply put, border security is national security.

A 2011 GAO report showed that border security agents could only claim "operational control" on 44 percent of the nation's borders. I have sponsored amendments to the Border Security Results Act of 2013 that would strengthen the definition of acceptable border security standards and also take steps to strengthen our borders against terrorist border crossings.
