Congresswoman Robin Kelly's Statement Following Oral Arguments for King v. Burwell at the Supreme Court

Press Release

Date: March 6, 2015

Congressional Black Caucus Health Braintrust Chair Dr. Robin L. Kelly issued the following statement following oral arguments for King v. Burwell at the Supreme Court:

"The Affordable Care Act rightfully makes premium tax credits available to all eligible Americans regardless of where they live. That's why this bill works. It bridges the divide that contributes to health inequality in America.

"The health of families that I represent is something that I take seriously. Reading the ACA so narrowly as to only extend credits to individuals who purchased insurance on a state run exchange will unnecessarily and unjustly deny millions of Americans access to quality and affordable health care -- against the express intent and purpose of the ACA.

"I'm hopeful that we will soon be able to focus on uninterrupted, effective implementation of the Affordable Care Act, and not on efforts that diminish and seek to strip away access to quality and affordable health coverage for millions of American families."
