Title: End-of-Instruction Tests
Vote to pass a committee substitute bill that requires high school students who graduate in and after 2012 to pass end-of-instruction tests in English II and Algebra I and two of five other tests, in order to receive a diploma. It states that if students fail to meet this requirement, they are provided with an opportunity to retake the tests until successful. Additionally, the bill declares that the Department of Public Safety must deny individuals under 18 a drivers license or permit if they fail the required eighth grade reading and mathematics test or the alternative reading and mathematics proficiency test. Previously, the student needed to pass the reading test or the alternative reading proficiency test to be eligible for a drivers license permit. The bill also requires college prep classes that must be completed to graduate from an accredited high school.
