Vote to pass a bill that requires a physician to perform an ultrasound on a patient prior to an abortion.

Highlights:

• Requires a physician to perform an ultrasound on a patient prior to the patient giving informed consent to an abortion (Sec. 1).

• Requires the physician performing the ultrasound to provide an explanation of what the ultrasound is depicting, including, but not limited to, the presence and location of the fetus (Sec. 1).

• Requires a physician to display the ultrasound images so the patient may view them and to provide a medical description of the images, including, but not limited to, the presence of external members and internal organs (Sec. 1).

• Authorizes a patient to refuse to view the ultrasound images (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that the provisions of this bill do not apply in the case of a medical emergency or medical necessity (Sec. 1).

• Establishes the following fines for a physician in violation of the provisions of this bill (Sec. 2):
• Up to $100,000 for the first violation; and
• Up to $250,000 for each subsequent violation.
