Title: Establishes Minimum Wage for Minors

Vote to pass a bill that establishes a minimum wage for "young student workers", effective January 1, 2016.

Highlights:

  • Requires an employer to pay “young student workers” at a rate of $8 per hour, or 85 percent of the federal minimum wage, whichever is higher (Sec. 1).
  • Defines a “young student worker” as an individual who is 18 or younger, does not have a high school diploma, does not have a dependent child, and does not qualify for another wage rate (Sec. 1).
